New Delhi, June 18: President of All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) Asaduddin Owaisi on Monday accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Congress of being desperate for Hindu vote bank and ignoring Muslim community all along. Speaking to ANI, Owaisi said that Muslims have been deceived by saying that “they have a vote bank”.
“Both parties, BJP and Congress, now hankering for Hindu vote bank. It is a fact that there has never been a Muslim vote-bank. Muslims have always been deceived by saying you have a vote-bank,” Owaisi said.
Accusing BJP of not being interested in real political empowerment and development of the Muslim community, AIMIM leader said that the BJP had not given a single ticket to Muslims to contest the assembly polls.
“The reality is that in last K’taka polls BJP did not give single Muslim ticket to contest for assembly elections. There’s no Muslim MP in Lok Sabha from BJP. This clearly shows that BJP is not interested in real political empowerment and development of Muslim community, he said, ANI reported.
Asaduddin Owaisi’s remarks have come hours after Union Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said that the Narendra Modi government will have to do more to gain Muslims’ confidence “whose minds have been poisoned over the last 70 years”. He added that BJP will remind the Muslims of the steps the government has taken for their development during the 2019 Lok Sabha polls campaigning.
“We have to do a lot more to gain the confidence of Muslims because their minds have been poisoned over the last 70 years. But, the good thing is that the new generation, the women are evaluating the BJP on its merits and demerits. This is a very positive development,” Naqvi was quoted as saying by PTI.
“The Congress and others always feel that Muslims will vote for them out of compulsion. So, they have never focused on their development and empowerment,” he said, adding, the BJP has always worked for the community’s welfare.
