Bengaluru: Chikkaballapur BJP MP K Sudhakar on Monday sparked controversy after he organised a party to celebrate his Lok Sabha win from the constituency where people queued up to receive their bottle of alcohol. Talking about the incident, Bengaluru Rural SP CK Baba said that the permission was provided by the excise department and not by police.

“The excise department gave permission and the police were instructed to take care of the arrangements. There is no fault of the police department in this, it is the responsibility of the excise department for providing the permission,” Bengaluru Rural SP CK Baba.

According to a India Today report, Sudhakar wrote a letter to the police department seeking security deployment and explicitly mentioned that alcohol would be served at the party. “From 12.30 pm, the stage event will begin, and food and alcohol arrangements will be made,” an official letter from the BJP leader to the police department read.

In 2024 Lok Sabha Elections, K Sudhakar defeated Congress candidate MS Raksha Ramaiah by a margin of more than 1.5 lakh votes from the Chikkaballapur constituency. Chikkaballapur is one of the 28 Lok Sabha seats in the southern state of Karnataka. The constituency came into existence in 1977 after the reorganisation of the Indian states.

Chikkaballapur went to the polls in the second phase of Lok Sabha polls on April 26, with a 77 per cent voter turnout.
