Chhattisgarh Accident: 17 Women Among 18 Killed As Goods Vehicle Plunges Into Valley In Kabirdham

Seventeen women and a man were killed when a goods vehicle they were travelling in skidded off the road and plunged into a gorge in Kabirdham district of Chhattisgarh.

Chhattisgarh Accident: As many as seventeen woman and a man were killed while four others sustained injuries in a tragic road accident Kabirdham district of Chhattisgarh on Monday. According to the police, a mini goods vehicles plunged into a deep gorge near Bahpani village, killing 13 people, including 12 women, on the spot and causing injuries to eight others.

A senior police official said the mishap occurred near the Bahpani village under Kukdur police station limits when the victims were returning after plucking tendu leaves from a forest in the pick-up vehicle (meant for transportation of goods).

“Twelve women and a man were killed on the spot, while nine others sustained injuries and were shifted to a hospital, where five more women died,” Kabirdham Superintendent of Police Abhishek Pallava said.

The SP said the driver lost control of the vehicle which then skidded off the road and tumbled down considerably and crashed onto the road below the valley.

“After being alerted, a police team rushed to the spot and launched the rescue exercise. The injured persons were shifted to a hospital,” the official said.

Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai condoled the deaths and instructed the district administration to provide the best possible medical assistance to the injured.

“Learnt about the tragic accident in which 18 villagers died and four were injured after a pickup vehicle overturned near Bahpani village in Kabirdham district. Necessary instructions have been given to the district administration to provide better treatment to the injured. May the departed souls rest in peace, and I express my deepest condolences to their families. I pray for the speedy recovery of the injured,” Sai said in a post on ‘X’.

2 dead as car plunges into gorge in Uttarakhand

Meanwhile, in a related incident, two people, including a woman, were killed and three others injured on Monday morning after a car they were travelling in fell into a deep gorge near Shikhar Fall in Rajpur area of Dehradun in Uttarakhand.

As per the police, the mishap occurred at around 3.30 am when five persons, mostly locals, were returning from the Shikhar Fall in the car, adding that man and a woman were killed on the spot.

The Shikhar Fall, located around 13 km from Dehradun, is a popular waterfall in the area.

A team of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) pulled the injured out of the mangled remains of the car and rushed them to hospitals in Dehradun. Two of them are under treatment at the Max Hospital and one at Coronation Hospital, he said.

The accident occurred apparently due to failure of the car’s brakes, the SI said.

The deceased were identified as Ayush Sharma (30) from Dalanwala area and Avni Kukreti (29), who resided in the Cantonment area of Dehradun and ran a cafe on Mussoorie road.

The injured were identified as Sagar Narula (29), a resident of Delhi, Yuvraj Bisht (33) and Isha (28) from Dehradun.
