Raipur: In Chhattisgarh, the BJP, Congress is in for a head-on collision in Kasdol Assembly constituency. Kasdol is a part of Balodbazar district. BJP’s Gaurishankar Agrawal has defeated Congress’ Rajkamal Singhaniya in the 2013 Assembly elections by 22,000 votes.

In the assembly election, BJP has fielded Gauri Shankar Agrawal while from JCC (Janta Congress Chhattisgarh) Parmeshwar Yadu has contested. Congress has fielded Shakuntala Sahu. The present MLA, Gaurishankar Agrawal, had assets worth Rs. 11 crores during the 2013 elections.

Till 2013, Congress has been winning from this seat. It is to be noted here that Congress has won nine times from this seat, whereas BJP has won twice and three independents from Congress compared to Congress. At the same time, in the last three assembly elections, two out of three times Congress has won and once BJP has won only once.

In 2013 assembly election, BJP candidate Gaurishankar Agarwal had received 96,629 votes whereas Congress candidate Rajkamal Singhania, who has been a Kasalm MLA in 2003 and 2008, had received only 70,701 votes.

Reportedly, the population of Kasdol is 14,071 with an average literacy rate of 78.30%, higher than the state average of 70.28%. Scheduled Castes (SC) constitutes 12.67% of the population.

The elections in the state were held in two phase-Nov 12 and Nov 20. Counting of votes would be held on December 11 and results would be out on the same day. The model code of conduct has been enforced since October 6 when the Election Commission announced the poll schedule.
