Mumbai, Oct 8: Shiv Sena youth wing head Aditya Thackeray justified the objection raised by his party against the concert which was scheduled to be attended by Gazal Maestro Ghulam Ali. In a veiled attack toward those opposing the political outfit’s extreme-right approach, Aditya said, “We need to show some sensitivity towards our soldiers who are killed at the borders. When there are constant ceasefire violations, our jawans are beheaded, we cannot be having fun with them.”
Adtiya, the third generation leader of Thackeray family addressed the media on Thursday after the party received flak over the cancellation on concert. Members of civil society have alleged the Hindutva outfit of acting as an extra constitutional authority in Maharashtra. However, Aditya tried to explain the rationale behind the move, saying, “We also like the songs of Ghulam Ali, and want better relations with our neighbour. On Wednesday, the organizers of the much-awaited concert called off their show in Mumbai scheduled on October 9 after receiving a stern warning from Shiv Sena. Although, the coalition partner Bharatiya Janata Party agreed to offer security, the event planners ended up being intimated by the Sena. On Thursday morning, they announced the cancellation of the concert in Pune as well, which was scheduled on October 10. The events were organized to pay tribute to legendary Indian gazal singer Jagjit Singh.
According to event organizer Randhir Roy, “Uddhav (Thackeray) sahab said that even he is a huge fan of Ghulam Ali and if the concert had taken place, he would have attended it too. But unfortunately the conditions at the border right now forced them to oppose the concert.”
