Mumbai, Dec 29: An 18-year old maid allegedly committed suicide in her employer’s residence in Goregaon (west). The deceased’s body was found hanging on Monday afternoon in flat number 203 in Garden Estate building, when the owner and his wife were not in the house. According to a report published in Mid-Day, the owner of the flat number 203 in Garden Estate building was out with his family. On Monday, they returned and knocked the door several times but did not get any response from inside. They informed about this to their neighbour and later opened the door with the help of spare key. When the owner opened the door of his flat, his domestic help, who was identified as Sufiya Khatul, was found hanging. However the Bangur Nagar police have registered a case of an Accidental Death Report (ADR ) following a preliminary enquiry but Khatul’s sister alleged in her statement to the police that the deceased’s employer had been harassing her for several months. The investigation is still under way and cops are checking the call records of Khatul. Police said that they will also record statements of the flat owner and neighbours, to ascertain the exact reason behind the suicide.
