New Delhi, Dec 19: Juvenile convict in the Nirbhaya rape-murder case is set to be released on Sunday. But a day before his release the Delhi Police has shifted him from the remand home to an unknown location. The swift decision was taken by the security forces citing the rising number of protesters outside the remand home who have tooth and nail opposed the release of the juvenile who was one of the members of the group who raped the 23-year-old medical student in the most brutal manner.
Delhi Police officials on Saturday took the juvenile from the Timarpur correctional facilities remand home to an undisclosed location as the convict had raised concerns regarding his life. To tackle the threat, Delhi police officials want to hide his identity and instructed the media not to carry his name or any sort of physical details which may lead to his identification.
Meanwhile, the family members of Nirbhaya along with the residents of Delhi assembled in large number in front of the remand home protesting against the release of the convict juvenile.
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Subramanian Swamy has filed a petition before the Delhi High Court demanding the bench to dismiss the release of the juvenile on grounds that he is a still a threat to the society. However, High Court has refrained from taking the step. As a result, the Delhi Police has no other option but to release him on Sunday.
