Mumbai, Oct 27: In yet another major twist in the sensational murder case of Sheena Bora, Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) examined former Mumbai Police Commissioner Rakesh Maria and two other top cops. The CBI examined Rakesh Maria, Mumbai Police Jt Comm (Law and Order) Deven Bharti and DCP Satyanarayan Choudhary in the Sheena Bora murder case. However there is no official words from CBI on the development, but it is believed that Rakesh Maria was examined because of his close links with Peter Mukerjea, media baron and second husband of prime accused Indrani Mukerjea.
Rakesh Maria, who was heading the high-profile Sheena Bora murder case and had interrogated the accused, was shunted out of the post of commissioner of police in the middle of the investigation. Maria was promoted as Director General of Police Home Guards. The sudden action by the Maharashtra government created quite a flutter. Maria was personally monitoring the mysterious murder of Sheena Bora in which Indrani Mukerjea, current wife of media tycoon Peter Mukerjea is prime accused and had even interrogated the accused personally.
After Rakesh Maria’s removal reports surfaced that Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis wasn’t happy with him over the undue attention given to Sheena Bora case. There were reports that Maria is friend of Peter Mukerjea and the Mumbai police was being soft on him during the investigation of Sheena Bora case. After the latest development in the Sheena Bora case, speculations are on rife whether Rakesh Maria tried to save Peter Mukerjea in the case. Last week, the CBI submitted in a special CBI court in Mumbai a supplementary chargesheet in the 2012 Sheena Bora murder case. In its chargesheet CBI stated Sheena’s mother and prime accused Indrani Mukerjea kept her husband Peter Mukerjea updated on phone over the selection of spot for disposal of the body.
Sheena Bora, 24, the daughter of Indrani Mukerjea from a previous relationship, was allegedly strangulated in a vehicle on April 24, 2012, and later her burnt body was dumped in a bag in the forests near Gagode, in Raigad district adjacent to Mumbai. The Mumbai Police arrested Indrani, her former driver Shyamvar P. Rai and ex-husband Sanjeev Khanna in August 2015, and later the CBI nabbed media baron Peter Mukerjea, Indrani’s husband, in November.
