A young woman suffering from mental issues fell unconscious after she descended on railway tracks at Delhi’s Rajendra Place Metro Station, however, luckily she was quickly rescued by Delhi Metro staff with the help of some commuters, preventing a possible tragedy, the Delhi Police said on Saturday.
According to a statement, police received information at around 1:47 PM on Wednesday (September 4) afternoon, about a young woman lying unconscious at the Rajendra Place metro station, following which a team rushed to the spot and found out that a PCR van had shifted her to the RML Hospital.
Giving details, a Delhi Police spokesperson said the woman had jumped onto the railway tracks after getting down from a metro train at the Rajendra Place station, but fell down and lost consciousness after running for a few meters on the tracks.
“As soon as the metro train stopped at PF No.1(from Dwarka to Vaishali), a woman started to run on platform in the opposite direction. At the end of platform she, descended on railway tracks and after running few meters she fell down and became unconscious,” the spokesperson said, adding that CCTV footage of station also corroborated this version of the incident where she can be seen getting down from train alone and running on platform and then on tracks.
Meanwhile, doctors at the RML hospital opined her to be suffering mental troubles, however, no injuries or history sexual assault was found during her medical examination, the police said.
Upon enquiry, the girl revealed her name was Priya and she was 21 years of age, but gave different addresses when asked where she lived. She also claimed that her parents were deceased and she lives with her uncle.
However, after investigation, police found out that the woman lives with her parents in Nawada area of west Delhi. Priya’s father, Ramesh, a tailor by profession, told the cops that his was undergoing treatment for psychiatric issues, said an official.
“The woman was discharged from the hospital and safely handed over to her parents on Friday,” he added.
