Delhi Traffic Advisory: Delhi woke up to heavy rain on Tuesday, with the downpour causing severe waterlogging in various areas. The downpour was so intense that many roads, specifically Minto Road, turned into mini rivers. Due to the flooding situation, the Delhi Police advised caution on several roads including Mundaka, IP Marg, Mangi Bridge, and Minto Bridge. There was a particularly shocking sight near Minto Bridge where an autorickshaw was found completely engulfed by the floodwaters.
The traffic police urged people to avoid Mundka and take alternate route accordingly.

1. Rohtak Road is currently a parking lot, packed from Nangloi to Tikri Border and back, largely due to pesky potholes and stagnant water. To add to our woes, a public bus broke down near Pillar No. 510. Avoid the Mundka area if possible and scout out a different course for your commute.
2. As part of manoeuvring traffic effectively, alternative paths were rolled out in various areas. These included Connaught Place’s outer circle, Minto Road, A Point famously known as ITO Chowk, Rohtak Road, and the residential locale of Geeta colony.
3. For folks who usually take Minto Road from Connaught Place, you might want to plan a detour! You’ll probably be rerouted to travel via the Outer Circle of Connaught Place and Barakhamba Road instead, taking you towards Turkman Gate or Kamla Market via the Ranjeet Singh Flyover. Update your route before you hit the road!
4. If you’re at the Kamla Market roundabout on Minto Road and you need to head towards Connaught Place, you can reroute using the Ranjeet Singh Flyover that will lead you straight onto DDU Marg.
5. For drivers starting out from W-Point or Tilak Marg, it’s essential to note that entry into IP Marg is not permitted. Instead, you’ll need to reroute your journey via Bahadurshah Zafar Marg (BSZ Marg).
6. For those traveling via Deen Dayal Upadhyay Marg or Delhi Gate, please note that vehicular movement will be rerouted. Instead of the usual IP Marg route, your trip will now take you along Bahadurshah Zafar Marg. Be prepared for this change in your regular commute.
7. If you’re making your way from Bahadurgarh to Peeragarhi, it’s suggested you take either the Jharodha-Najafgarh route or use the UER-II, coupling it with the Najafgarh-Nangloi Road to get to your endpoint.
8. If you’re heading out towards Bahadurgarh or Tikri Border from Peeragarhi, it’s probably a good idea to take the Outer Ring Road, get through District Centre Janakpuri, and then navigate your way to your destination via Najafgarh.
9. Travelers are given the green light to use the side of Rajghat that leads to ISBT Kashmiri Gate.
10. For those traveling from the Trans Yamuna and Rajghat Depot direction, you’ll encounter barriers on Raja Ram Kohli Marg, specifically at the loop that takes you onto Outer Ring Road.
The city experienced intense rainfall in some parts because of the migration of the monsoon trough over Delhi. Here’s what’s happening: Warm and damp winds originating from the Arabian Sea are caught and funneled through the monsoon trough due to the presence of southwesterly winds sweeping through Delhi. To add to it, there’s also cool and dry air connected to a rather weak disturbance in the west in the locality. This cool air then interacts with the warm, humid monsoon winds.
In Delhi, this month turned out to be a rainy one, with showers gracing the city nearly every day, save for a break on August 3. This unexpected rainy August saw the city receive a total of 240.2mm of rain, making it the highest downpour since 2013’s record of 321.4mm. Looking forward, the Indian Meteorological Department anticipates the continuation of this trend, predicting intermittent light showers for the remainder of the week.
