Delhi Weather Update: A brief burst of heavy rains accompanied by strong winds lashed parts of Delhi on Tuesday, causing waterlogging and traffic jams in several areas. The sudden downpour also resulted in a sharp dip in the maximum temperature in the national capital which settled at 33 degrees Celsius.
As per the local weather office, heavy rains were recorded in Laxmi Nagar, Central Secretariat, Delhi Cantonment, Palam, Safdarjung, Parliament Street, Dilshad Garden, ITO and Greater Kailash areas, among others, causing waterlogging which triggered traffic jams in parts of the city.
Delhi logged a minimum temperature of 27.2 degrees Celsius on Tuesday while Air Quality Index (AQI) was recorded in the ‘satisfactory’ category with a reading of 76 at 9 AM, according to Central Pollution Control Board data.
An AQI between zero and 50 is considered ‘good’, 51 and 100 ‘satisfactory’, 101 and 200 ‘moderate’, 201 and 300 ‘poor’, 301 and 400 ‘very poor’, and 401 and 500 ‘severe’.
The heavy rainfall also brought down the maximum temperature in the city, which is likely to settle at around 33 degrees Celsius, the weather office said.
Earlier, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) had predicted light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning to hit parts of the national capital.
Meanwhile, in its latest bulletin, the weather office has predicted more rains in parts of the city including, Narela, Bawana, Alipur, Mundka, Paschim Vihar, Punjabi Bagh, Najafgarh, Dwarka, Akshardham, Vasant Vihar, Mehrauli, Chhatarpur and Aya Nagar, among others.
