New Delhi: In a politically significant development amid Lok Sabha Elections 2024, the Supreme Court on Friday granted interim bail to Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal till June 1 and asked him to surrender on June 2, 2024. However, the Supreme Court rejected the request of senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi, appearing for Arvind Kejriwal, to grant him interim bail until the declaration of results on June 4.

A bench of Justices Sanjiv Khanna and Dipankar Dutta granted the Delhi Chief Minister interim bail in the money laundering case registered against him by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with the Delhi excise policy case.

Kejriwal to Surrender on 2nd June 2024

During the hearing of the case, the Supreme Court bench asked Kejriwal to surrender on June 2. “Let us not draw any parallel. He was arrested in March and the arrest could have been before or after. Now, after 21 days, there won’t be any difference. On June 2, Arvind Kejriwal will surrender,” the Supreme Court ruled.

On March 21, the Delhi chief minister was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate in the alleged Delhi liquor excise policy scam – must surrender to the prison authorities by June 2.

During the hearing of the plea, the Supreme Court said other bail conditions would be similar to those imposed on AAP leader Sanjay Singh, when he was given interim relief by the top court.

Supreme Court lawyer Shadan Farasat representing Kejriwal says, “There is no restriction on his election campaigning. We will try for his release today itself.”

Now the AAP cadres will be re-energised after the release of Arvind Kejriwal from Tihar Jail. And the party members will work for the Lok Sabha Elections with full force.

After this release from the Tihar Jail, Kejriwal will now directly lead the campaign which will swing the voter mood in Delhi. This will have the larger impact on Lok Sabha elections.
