New Delhi: Amid the ongoing row over the unemployed women’s monthly stipend scheme, the Aam Aadmi Party on Monday announced another scheme targeting the priests of the Union Territory. This new scheme offers a monthly honorarium of Rs 18,000 to Hindu and Sikh priests. Announcing the scheme, the former Delhi Chief Minister stated that registration for the Pujari Granthi Samman Yojana would begin on Tuesday.
Explaining the scheme during a press conference, Kejriwal stated that the Hindu and Sikh priests of the shrines will get a honorarium of Rs 18,000 per month. “Today I am making an important announcement regarding a scheme. The name of the scheme is Pujari Granthi Samman Yojana. Under this, there is a provision to give an honorarium to the priests of temples and the ‘granthis’ of the Gurudwara. They will be given an honorarium of about ₹18,000 per month. This is happening for the first time in the country. The priest is a class that has carried forward the rituals from generation to generation. They never paid attention to their family and we never paid attention to them.”
The former chief minister stated that he would launch the Pujari Granthi Samman Yojana after visiting the Hanuman Temple in Delhi’s Connaught Place.
“Registration for this scheme will begin tomorrow. I will be visiting Hanuman Temple in Connaught Place tomorrow to start the registration of this scheme,” he added.
Recently, Arvind Kejriwal launched the Mahila Samman Scheme, offering a monthly allowance of Rs 2100 to jobless women. Members of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) began the process of enrolling interested individuals into the scheme. Strikingly, the next day, the Women and Child Development (WCD) department from the government clarified that the “Mahila Samman” scheme doesn’t officially exist and guided residents to avoid sharing private details.
The Aam Aadmi Party promptly alleged that the implicated officers in the incident were under the BJP’s sway. The party pledged to hold these officials accountable too. On the flip side, the BJP accused AAP of deception, stating that the AAP and the Delhi administration were not on the same page.
Delhi Lt Governor V K Saxena instructed officials to conduct an inquiry against private persons allegedly collecting details of women beneficiaries in the name of enrolling them for the scheme.
Notably, the inquiry was ordered following a complaint by Congress leader and party’s New Delhi Assembly seat candidate Sandeep Dikshit.
The Delhi Police are investigating the matter. Several teams have been formed to identify camps which are allegedly gathering details of women for Mahila Samman Yojana.
