New Delhi: The Lok Sabha Elections 2024 are round the corner and ahead of the polls, there have been a lot of political changes and developments across the nation; one of the most talked-about political events is the arrest of Arvind Kejriwal, Delhi CM and AAP Supremo in the Delhi Excise Policy Case by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). Arvind Kejriwal, who is currently in Tihar Jail, will remain in judicial custody till April 15 as of now. While he has been discharging his duties as the Chief Minister from behind the bars, there have been speculations that his wife and former bureaucrat, Sunita Kejriwal may become the next Delhi Chief Minister. Amid different reports and rumours, senior AAP leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh has revealed her role in the party…
A major question that has been doing rounds post the arrest of Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, is whether his wife Sunita Kejriwal will take his place in the near future. Clearing the doubt and answering this question, AAP Rajya Sabha MP and senior leader Sanjay Singh has said in a media interview, “No. She [Sunita Kejriwal] is the one who is able to interact with Arvind Kejriwal because he is in jail. Kejriwal’s messages are reaching the party through her. If the court allows, more lines of communication may open with Kejriwal. Currently, the party is facing a tough time. The party is focused on the campaign for its candidates.” The AAP leader has clearly stated that Sunita Kejriwal will not become the CM.
Less than a couple of months ago, there was a massive Bihar Political Crisis when Nitish Kumar resigned from the JD(U) and joined BJP; he also exited from the INDIA Bloc. Responding to this, Sanjay Singh has said, “Nitish Kumar ji’s departure was completely unexpected. He was going from one place to another to bring opposition parties together and he then joined NDA. Switching positions in this manner impacts your image. You may be able to get power and some benefits in the short term, I don’t deny that. But if you switch sides over and over again, history will not judge you kindly. You can be remembered either as coward or as courageous.”
Sanjay Singh, who himself was behind the bars since October, 2023 was recently released and he has been now actively protesting with the other AAP leaders, against Kejriwal’s arrest. Even today, him, along with other leaders and party workers are holding a ‘collective’ fast across India and abroad, to support Kejriwal. The leaders will sit at the Jantar Mantar in Delhi today, with their supporters.
