Shimla: At least nine persons died as a private bus in which they were travelling in plunged into a gorge near Dadahu in Sirmaur area of Himachal Pradesh on Sunday evening.Also Read - Karnataka: Three Minors Among Seven Killed As Cruiser Rams Into Tree In Dharwad District
Reports state that the accident happened when the drive of the bus lost control over the vehicle on Shri Renuka Ji-Nahan route. The bus fell into a river at Jalal Bridge resulting in the death of nine persons. The identities of those killed have not been ascertained. The police have reached the spot and a rescue and relief operation has been launched. More details are yet awaited in connection with the matter.
The incident comes a day after 30 persons were killed as a bus fell into VC canal at Kanaganamaradi, 105 km South-West of Bengaluru on Saturday. Among those killed were eight men, 13 women and nine children, the police said.
As per the preliminary reports, negligence on the part of the driver may have caused the accident, an official was quoted as saying by PTI.
Following the accident, Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy rushed to the spot, cancelling all his official engagements. He has also announced a compensation of Rs 5 lakh to the kin of the deceased.
President Ram Nath Kovind, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Congress President Rahul Gandhi and state opposition leader BS Yeddyurappa also expressed grief over the loss of lives.
