Raipur, Mar 2: Ten Naxals were gunned down in an encounter with security forces in forests in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district, police said on Friday. The gun-battle took place in Pujari Kanker in Bijapur district when a joint team of Telangana and Chhattisgarh Police was on an anti-Maoist operation in the area. A greyhound commando of Telangana Police also lost his life in the encounter. Hari Bushan, a senior Maoist leader, is suspected to be among those killed in the encounter. “10 Naxals have been killed in an operation by security personnel in Pujari Kanker in Bijapur district,” DM Awasthi, Special DG (Naxal Operations) told news agency ANI. The bodies of slain Naxals are being shifted to the government hospital at Bhadarachalam in Kothagudem district of Telangana. A huge cache of arms and ammunition was also recovered and the search operation is still on. The identity of killed Naxals was not immediately known, but security agencies believe some top Naxal leaders could be among those killed, officials said. On February 28, nine Naxals were arrested during a search operation by security forces in Chhattisgarh s insurgency-hit Sukma district. The operation was conducted jointly by personnel from the District Reserve Guard (DRG), District Force (DF), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and its elite CoBRA battalion.
