New Delhi: As the entire country welcomed a 14-hour curfew in an effort to contain the spread of the novel coronavirus, questions are being raised whether it’s a pilot project for a longer shutdown in the coming days. On Sunday, the death toll from coronavirus reached 6 with two news deaths being reported from Maharashtra and Bihar. The number of positive cases too reached 324. Given this situation, though the Centre is not likely to declare any quarantine, preparations from all sectors indicate an unofficial curfew till March 31. No Passenger train will be running till March 31. States are announcing individual plans to quarantine themselves. The Punjab government on Sunday announced its decision to enforce lockdown in the entire state till March 31 in the wake of the threat of coronavirus. Chief Minister Amarinder Singh said all essential and government services would continue during the lockdown. “All essential Govt services will continue & shops selling essential items such as milk, food items, medicines, etc will be open. All DCs & SSPs have been directed to implement the restrictions immediately, Singh said in his tweet.
Punjab at present has 14 coronavirus patients in the state.
Before Punjab, Rajasthan had announced a lockdown till March 31. Maharashtra, Goa, Bihar and West Bengal have also sealed their borders till March 31.
