Rohtak, September 9: The Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, who was imprisoned last month for raping two women is always surrounded by 15-20 security guards inside the Rohtak jail, as authorities believe that someone might kill him, said an inmate who was released this week. A fellow inmate of Ram Rahim inside the Rohtak jail said that “accused lodged at the prison are so angry that someone might kill him”.
According to Hindustan Times, Sonu Pandit, who recently got bail, said that the Dera chief has been given high profile security on the pretext of threats from his fellow inmates. Pandit said that since the day Ram Rahim came at Rohtak prison, problems of jail inmates have increased. Accused lodged in jail in different cases have to face several restrictions and due to this “inmates had started hating him”.
Ram Rahim a “spiritual” leader had enjoyed mass following for last several years. After his conviction, thousands of people went on a rampage to burn down public and private property.
After the incident Haryana government run by the BJP drew criticism for letting the violence go on before police opened fire to control mobs, leading to the deaths of at least 30 people.
The inmate also said that Ram Rahim has been given white clothes at the prison and has not assigned any work.
Another prisoner who spent first few days at the Rohtak prison with Ram Rahim said that he kept screaming during his initial days in jail and did not eat anything.
The Rohtak police had also written to DG prison to install mobile jammers inside the prison and authorities had enforced a no-fly zone over the prison.
An officer at the Rohtak prison reportedly said that for next few days section 144 of the CrPC will be in effect within 5 km radius of the jail premises and at present, there are no plans to shift the Dera chief to any other jail.
Meanwhile, on Saturday the security agencies have found a tunnel and a passageway connecting Ram Rahim’s quarters to the hostel of his female disciples during the second day of a massive sanitisation exercise inside the headquarters of his sect.
