New Delhi: In a major move to make the roads of Delhi signal-free and free from traffic jams, the Modi government has launched a slew of new infrastructure projects. According to the reports, a new 20-kilometre-long signal-free flyover will be constructed in Delhi. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and the central government have approved this project. The new signal-free flyover will provide seamless connectivity from South Delhi to IGI Airport and Gurugram.
The flyover will begin from AIIMS in South Delhi and extend up to Mahipalpur in Southeast Delhi. Later, this road will be further extended to connect with the Gurugram-Faridabad Road. The elevated corridor, stretching 20 kilometres, is expected to cost around ₹5,000 crore. Once completed, the travel time to the airport will be reduced to just 20 minutes.
It is important to note that currently there is only one connectivity route from Noida, Ghaziabad, and East Delhi to the airport and Gurugram and that is the Ring Road and Outer Ring Road. This route can be accessed through the DND Flyway and Faridabad. During peak hours, the Delhi-Gurugram Highway and NH-48 experience heavy traffic, often leading to congestion.
