New Delhi, Aug 10: With 2019 general elections around the corner, Samajwadi Party national president Akhilesh Yadav has begun the preparations. Former Uttar Pradesh chief minister will start a campaign with 50-km cycle yatra. The yatra will begin from Kannauj town. Reportedly, the yatra will be flagged off by “Khajanchi”, a child born in a queue outside a bank soon after demonetisation. Last year, Akhilesh Yadav had adopted the village of “Khajanchi”. Named “Khajanchi” (treasurer), the child`s family was given a house under the Lohia Awas Scheme by the then state government. Recently, Akhilesh Yadav had announced that he will be contesting the Lok Sabha Elections 2019 from Kannauj, which is represented by his wife Dimple Yadav. The BJP had scored a thumping victory in Uttar Pradesh in the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, and together with ally Apna Dal, won 73 of the states 80 seats.

In a stunning blow to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ahead of the 2019 general elections, the party in March lost Lok Sabha bypolls to its bastion Gorakhpur and Phulpur in Uttar Pradesh. Samajwadi Party’s Pravin Nishad defeated BJP’s Upendra Dutt Shukla by 21,961 votes in Gorakhpur, while Nagendra Pratap Singh Patel of SP clinched the Phulpur seat drubbing the saffron party’s Kaushalendra Singh Patel by 59,460 votes.
