A day after the Enforcement Directorate (ED) said that it would conduct raids at several locations in Delhi and the adjoining areas in connection with the Delhi car bomb blast case, it carried out searches at 25 premises, including Al Falah University office in Okhla, early on Wednesday.

ED teams, sources said, began conducting raids at 5 am on the premises, including those of the trustees of the university, offices and homes of its associated persons and organisations. The ED is probing the involvement of Al Falah University in the Red Fort car-bomb blast that killed 15 people on November 10.

The university has been included in the investigation, sources said, after several doctors were arrested in connection with the case and the main accused was identified as a Kashmiri resident who might have links with the varsity.

The Delhi Police Crime Branch had earlier filed two FIRs against the university, one for “incorrect information” about the university being provided on its website and the other for enrolling students while its NAAC approval was expired.

The founding trustee and senior officials of Al Falah University are likely to be questioned by the Crime Branch in connection with the registration of the cases against it over UGC and NAAC approvals. The Crime Branch has launched a probe into the regulatory compliance and any criminal aspects related to the Al Falah University.

NIA uncovers terror module

On Tuesday, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) arrested one of the associates of the main accused in the case, which it said had been providing technical assistance to the terror module. He is being investigated for the modification of drones used in the blast and attempts to produce rockets.

NIA sources said the online group communication of the terror module had an organised internal hierarchy, with a Signal group created three months ago with a name having special characters. Four persons identified as Muzammil, Adeel, Muzaffar and Irfan are members of the Signal group.

Weapons seized

Weapons and ammunition recovered in the raids include a Krinkov-type rifle and a pistol recovered from the vehicle of the accused Dr Shaheen, said sources. The group, the sources added, procured and shared weapons in 2024. The role division in the module included financial management, recruitment of Kashmiri youths, weapons handling and efforts to carry out attacks, they added.

Probe broadens

Wednesday’s raids come a day after the ED had announced it would search several premises in the national capital and the National Capital Region (NCR) in connection with the case. It had also said it was working to establish the nexus between entities based on prima facie material available with it. The ED had booked a case under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) in this regard.

Sources said Al Falah University is among several institutions which are being probed in connection with the November 10 car bomb blast near the Red Fort. The blast had left 15 people dead and over 30 others injured at one of India’s most historic national landmarks.
