New Delhi: Coronavirus has tightened its grip across India as the total number of positive cases in the country climbed to 2,902, with fresh 601 patients and 12 deaths — the highest spike in the last 24 hours. Of the total 2,902 COVID-19 cases, more than 25 per cent are linked to the controversial religious congregation Tablighi Jamaat, held in New Delhi last month. As per the ministry’s updated data on coronavirus cases, six fresh deaths were reported — three from Maharahtra, two from Delhi and one from Gujarat. This took India’s total death toll to 68. Health officials have also confirmed that the number may jump in next few days. Maharashtra has reported the highest number of fatalities (19) so far, followed by Gujarat (9), Telengana (7), Madhya Pradesh (6), Delhi (6), Punjab (5), Karnataka (3), West Bengal (3), Jammu and Kashmir (2), Uttar Pradesh (2) and Kerala (2).  Andhra Pradesh,Tamil Nadu, Bihar and Himachal Pradesh have reported a death each. “In the last two days, 600 people (related to Markaz Nizamuddin) in Delhi have been quarantined. We are trying to trace all contacts. Till now, there are 386 Coronavirus positive patients including 259 from Markaz Nizamuddin. We have only 7000-8000 PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) kits left in our stock which will last 2-3 days. We’ve demanded 50,000 PPE kits on urgent basis”, said Delhi Health Minister Satyendra Jain.



On the other hand, 108 members of Sir Ganga Ram Hospital staff including doctors and nurses have been quarantined after they came in contact with two patients who in their second test report were found positive for COVID-19.

Of the 108, 85 are in home quarantine and 23 in the hospital. Meanwhile, to avoid the spread of fake news or rumors, Safdarjung hospital authorities have decided to give names, mobile numbers, email ids of all admins of WhatsApp groups of the hospital to police.
