New Delhi, December 21: Senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader Subramanian Swamy termed today’s 2G judgement “very bad” and said “honest law officers were needed instead of sycophants”. A special court acquitted all the 16 accused in the 2G spectrum allocation case, including former telecom minister A Raja and DMK MP Kanimozhi.

“Today’s judgment is a very bad judgement, this must be appealed in higher court. It has been derailed, but it can be put back on track again provided we have honest law officers and lawyers who don’t do ‘chamchagiri’ of ministers,” Swamy said. Swamy also hit out at former attorney general Mukul Rohatgi saying, “Former AG Mukul Rohatgi has welcomed this verdict. I had written to the Prime Minister opposing his appointment as Attorney General. Rohatgi had appeared for some of the accused companies.” (Also read: Waited in Court From 10 AM to 5 PM For 7 Years For Evidence: 2G Judge)

Rohatgi termed these allegations meaningless and said, “Subramanian Swamy is in the habit of making wild and false allegations. I had appeared for some of these people at the time of grant of bail in the Supreme Court, in 2012. After, I became AG, I had nothing to do with the case. To make personal allegations is meaningless.” said Rohatgi.

Swamy also appealed to the Prime Minister to fight corruption on the war footing. “Judge says earlier there was a lot of enthusiasm, but later it became worse and worse. Judge also said counsels were lackadaisical. This is a big condemnation of the government’s controlling of the case. This is not a setback at all, its an aberration as the law officers were not serious on fighting against corruption. So I hope the Prime Minister takes lesson from this. We must now fight corruption on war footing.”

Besides Raja and Kanimozhi, Special Judge OP Saini also acquitted Shahid Balwa, Vinod Goenka, Asif Balwa, Rajiv Aggarwal, Karim Morani, P Amirtham and Sharad Kumar in connection with the case.

In its chargesheet, the ED also named DMK supremo M Karunanidhi’s wife Dayalu Ammal as an accused in the case in which it had alleged that Rs 200 crore was paid by Swan Telecom (P) Ltd (STPL) promoters to DMK-run Kalaignar TV.

In its final report, the ED had named 10 individuals and nine companies as accused and listed them in the chargesheet for the offences under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act.

Besides Kalaignar TV, the other companies accused in the case were STPL (now Etisalat DB Telecom (P) Ltd), Kusegaon Realty (P) Ltd, Cineyug Media & Entertainment (P) Ltd, Dynamix Realty, Eversmile Construction Company (P) Ltd, Conwood Construction & Developers (P) Ltd, DB Realty Ltd and Mystical Construction (P) Ltd (earlier known as Nihar Constructions (P) Ltd).
