New Delhi: An earthquake of magnitude 5.0 on Richter scale hit northern parts of Odisha on Tuesday. The tremors, according to the reports, were felt at around 6:36 PM. No damage or casualty has been reported so far. More details are awaited.
H.R. Biswas, Director of the Met centre, said the depth of the earthquake was 10 km while it may have been felt across a 150-200 km radius of the epicentre. Met department sources said that Hooghly in West Bengal was the epicentre. As per a report, people were seen coming out from their homes following tremors. Tremors were felt in areas like Anandpur, Baripada, Balasore.
A mild earthquake was reported from Raigarh district near Mumbai in Maharashtra. The tremors were felt in Kalyan, Ulhasnagar and Ambarnath. The 2.8 magnitude earthquake struck the region at 9.31 PM, news agency ANI had reported. The epicentre of the quake is not known yet.
On July 8, an earthquake of magnitude measuring 4.3 on Richter Scale struck Jaipur region of Rajasthan. Recently, strong tremors were felt across North India, including Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR), Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh.
Earlier in February, an earthquake measuring 3.4 on the Richter scale struck Satara city in Maharashtra. The tremors were reportedly felt during wee hours.
