Independence Day 2025: Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation from Red Fort, speaking about India's achievements in the past year.
79th Independence Day HIGHLIGHTS: On Independence Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi hoisted the national flag at the Red Fort and addressed the nation. In his 103-minute speech, the longest ever by any Indian Prime Minister, he spoke about India’s achievements, new plans, and national security. PM Modi praised the armed forces for their success in Operation Sindoor, highlighting their bravery and warning Pakistan that India would not bow to nuclear threats. He also announced Mission Sudarshan Chakra, a project to strengthen the country’s safety and develop more advanced weapons systems.
One of the biggest announcements was about new GST reforms, which will be rolled out by Diwali to make daily-use goods cheaper. PM Modi also launched the Pradhan Mantri Viksit Bharat Rojgaar Yojana to create more jobs and support employment across the country.
Throughout his speech, he stressed farmers’ welfare, national security, and the need for reforms to make life easier for ordinary citizens.

PM Modi announced a project to develop an indigenous air-defence system to protect India’s vital military and civilian installations and deliver a decisive response to any enemy threat, a move that came amid concerns over security challenges emanating from Pakistan and China.
In his Independence-Day address from the ramparts of the Red Fort here, Modi also hinted at New Delhi’s resolve to reduce dependence on foreign technologies for military platforms as he called for the development of jet engines within the country for India’s fighter aircraft.
Though the prime minister did not elaborate on the air-defence system named “Sudarshan Chakra”, experts said it could be on the lines of Israel’s Iron Dome all-weather air-defence system, known as a very effective missile shield. (PTI)

In the last 11 years, our solar energy capacity has increased by 30 times. We are constructing new dams, and India is now focusing actively on nuclear energy. We have taken significant steps in this direction, with 10 new nuclear reactors currently operational. By the time India celebrates 100 years of independence, we aim to increase our nuclear energy capacity tenfold,” he was quoted as saying by PTI.
