New Delhi, January 15: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) which is power at the centre, as well as 19 other states, claim that all state government employees are getting their salaries and benefits under 7th Pay Commission. The party claims that if they are brought to power in other states like Mizoram, Kerala, Karnataka, Meghalaya, Tripura, West Bengal and Telangana the state government employees of these states will get same benefits like other states ruled by BJP.

“In the 19 states where the BJP government is in power, employees are getting their salaries according to the 7th Pay Commission,” Assam Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said while campaigning for the party in Meghalaya where the elections are due this year.

The BJP is in power in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Chhattisgarh, Goa, Gujarat, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Manipur, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand. In five other states – Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Jammu and Kashmir, Sikkim and Nagaland – the BJP is also in power and are playing a role of a junior ally in the ruling alliance.

Biswa Sarma, however, said that in Meghalaya, government officials are being deprived of their rightful salaries. “You can also see how much of corruption is there in the government through education scam,” he further added.

Earlier this month several reports claimed that the government has decided to do away with 7th Pay Commission in the future. The Sen Times reported that in future no new Pay Commission would be formed for increasing salaries of central government employees.

“The union government is determined to take a strong decision in this regard,” a top finance ministry official said to The Sent Times.

Several media reports claimed that instead of forming an 8th Pay Commission, the government is looking at an alternative to revise future salaries and allowances of central staff and pensioners.

The report further said that the government will follow in the footsteps of the 7th Pay Commission Chairman Justice AK Mathur for the formation of the next Pay Commission.

Earlier in an interview, Justice Mathur had said that the government should review the salary of central government employees every year looking into the data available to it and based on the price index.
