7th Pay Commission Latest News: In what could come as good news for central government employees ahead of the festive season, the Narendra Modi government is working on doubling the number of employees that are covered under its pension scheme, according to reports.

The government aims at bringing 6 crore employees under the ambit of the pension scheme – almost double the current 3.09 crore.

Meanwhile, the government is reportedly planning to make some more announcements with regard to the 7th Pay Commission benefits for the central government employees.

Notably, Minister of Finance (MoS) P Radhakrishnan, in March, had declared that the Centre is not considering a raise the minimum pay and fitment factor beyond 7th Pay Commission recommendations.

The Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh government is likely to announce a hike in the Dearness Allowance (DA) for its employees. This is not it as the government also plans to give a bonus to the employees by October end. If implemented, the move will benefit around 18 lakh employees a report claims. Currently, the employees are currently getting 7 per cent Dearness Allowance which will increase to 9 per cent after the announcement. The hike will be implemented from July 2018 and the employees will be getting arrears for three months.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court is set to hear on October 9 a plea seeking universal pension coverage and higher allocation.
