7th Pay Commission Latest News: While over 50 lakh Central Government employees wait for a hike in fitment factor and minimum pay beyond 7th Pay Commission recommendations, reports have started doing rounds that an announcement in connection to the same is likely on January 26 – Republic Day 2019. However, no official confirmation on the same has been made by the government yet. It may be noted here that similar reports surfaced at the time of Independence Day 2018 as well but, Prime Minister Narendra Modi didn’t give any good news to the CG employees.

If an announcement is made in the favour of the CG employees, then it may prove to a great boost for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which is leaving no stone unturned to come back to power in the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections 2019.
Meanwhile, Minister of State for Finance reportedly denied that the Centre is mulling over a proposal for an increase in fitment factor for the CG employees. With the statement, MoS (Finance) P Radhakrishnan has dashed the hopes of 50 lakh Central government employees and an equivalent number of retirees, , for the second time in a matter of 10 months.
The minister had made a similar claim in March 2018 as well when he said that the Centre is not considering to raise the minimum pay and fitment factor of 50 lakh Central Government beyond 7th Pay Commission recommendations.
Over 50 lakh CG employees and an equal number of pensioners are demanding the Centre to increase the minimum pay by up to Rs 8,000 and hike the fitment factor from 2.57 times to 3.68 times, beyond the recommendations of 7th Central Pay Commission (7th CPC).
