New Delhi: As people of the nation came together in unity to light up lamps to ward off the coronavirus darkness from the country, President, Vice President and Union Ministers along with chief ministers of various states also came together to light earthen lamps at 9 PM for 9 minutes on Sunday.
President Ram Nath Kovind with the First Lady and members of his family joined citizens in demonstrating collective solidarity and positivity by lighting candles at 9 PM. He also expressed his gratitude towards every Indian for showing resolve in fight against COVID-19.
Vice President Venkaiah Naidu on Sunday night also turned off all the lights of his residence and lit the earthen lamps.
Home Minister Amit Shah also was seen lighting up the earthen lamps after turning off all lights at his residence.
Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan, who is monitoring the COVID-19 situation across the country, was also seen lighting up an earthen lamp to show support for the call by PM Modi to switch off all lights of houses at 9 PM for 9 minutes.
Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said, “At home, 9 PM, lighting diyas for some moments of mindfulness and thinking of our community even as we work day and night as one nation.”
Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad also lit up the candles in his house. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh was seen lighting up earthen lamps along with his family members at his residence. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla joined his family members in lighting up the earthen lamps. BJP President JP Nadda also turned off all the lights of his residence and lit up earthen lamps.
Among chief ministers who joined PM Modi’s call to light up lamps include Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat, Telanagana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao and UP CM Yogi Adityanath.
