Starting today i.e. November 1, 2025, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) will bring major changes to the way Aadhaar updates are processed. The goal is to make the system faster, simpler, and more user-friendly. Under the new rules, Aadhaar holders will no longer need to visit an enrolment centre for most demographic updates like name, address, date of birth, or mobile number. Instead, these changes can be made online through the myAadhaar portal, as long as the Aadhaar is linked to an active mobile number. The system will verify details using existing government databases, cutting down paperwork and time. However, biometric updates like fingerprint, iris scan, or photo changes will still need an in-person visit to an Aadhaar Seva Kendra.

Revised fees for Aadhaar update

• Biometric updates: Rs. 125 (free for children aged 5–7 and 15–17 years)
• Demographic updates: Rs. 75 if done separately; free if done along with biometric updates
• Document-only updates via the myAadhaar portal: free until June 14, 2026; Rs. 75 if done at a centre

These updates are part of UIDAI’s effort to improve accuracy, reduce manual processing, and make Aadhaar services more accessible to everyone

Aadhaar-PAN linking: What you should know before the deadline

A major part of the new Aadhaar update system is the mandatory linking of Aadhaar with PAN (Permanent Account Number). UIDAI and the Income Tax Department have both stressed that this step is crucial for financial verification and access to key services.

• All cardholders must link their PAN with Aadhaar before December 31, 2025.
• If not linked by the deadline, the PAN may become inactive, which could cause problems with financial transactions, income tax filing, and KYC verification.
• Banks, financial institutions, and government services will increasingly use Aadhaar-PAN linkage to confirm identity and prevent fraud.

The UIDAI official website provides all details about how to update Aadhaar information. It includes:

• Online self-service updates for demographic details via the myAadhaar portal.
• Options to update by post or visit an enrolment centre for biometric or complex changes.
• A feature to track your update status using the Update Request Number (URN).
• A list of valid documents for Proof of Identity (PoI) and Proof of Address (PoA).
• Contact information and regional office details for assistance.

• Log in using your Aadhaar number and OTP sent to your registered mobile.
