New Delhi, June 2: Amidst the ongoing debate whether Aadhaar card should be made compulsory or not across the country, the Indian Railways, in a recent move, made the Aadhaar compulsory for booking of tickets. Not only in railway reservation, you will need Aadhaar while renting a house too. Aadhaar number will be needed in both the cases for a verification process.
Ahead of this development, Ambala North Railways has created a separate column in the form for passengers to fill their Aadhaar details. They will have to now provide their Aadhaar card number in the reservation form for booking tickets. Also, in the newly revised form, passengers, while booking sleeper class tickets in premium trains such as Gareeb Rath and Duranto Express, will have to mark their choice about requirement of bedroll in the reservation form itself.
Apart from this, a separate column has been provided in the reservation form for a medical facility. If a passenger wants any kind of medical assistance during their train journey, they can fill in the option to seek immediate help in case of deteriorating health. For pregnant women, there is a provision for reserving the lower berths.
It must be noted that Karnataka farmers, seeking farm loan waiver, may now have to link their Aadhaar number and Permanent Account Number (PAN) with the loan waiver scheme to get their loan waived. According to a Bangalore Mirror report, seeking inspiration from the CAG audit of the Centre’s loan waiver of 2008, the Karnataka government has been mulling linking of PAN, Aadhaar and tenancy certificate with the scheme. The development has come a few days after Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy announced that farm loans availed between April 1, 2009, and December 31, 2017, will be waived.
