New Delhi, Dec 13: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government is set to lock horns with the Ministry of Railways as the Arvind Kejriwal regime is set to take the legal route to press action against the Indian Railways for undertaking the demolition drive in Shakurpur basti destroying around 500 shanties. 1 child was killed in the midnight demolition drive, whereas, nearly 3,000 people were left helpless on the road in the cold winter.
Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has announced to take action against all those responsible for conducting the ‘illegal’ demolition. “Supreme Court of India has ruled that no slums will be demolished till 2017. Who gave them the authority to conduct the midnight raid? 1 child is dead. Murder charges should be pressed against them. We are seeking legal opinion to file case under section 302 of the IPC,” said Kejriwal, who was visibly furious. However, the Railways has refused any wrongdoing on its part. The officials claim that the unfortunate death of the child was reported in morning, and he was not physically injured during the demolition. Officials maintain that the drive was justified as it was conducted in accordance with the National Green Tribunal (NGT) order. It was undertaken to check pollution due to illegal encroachments.
According to the parents of the deceased child, the death of the minor occurred due to a heavy object falling on his head during the demolition drive, reported India Today.

Kejriwal called a high-level meeting involving Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia and cabinet minister Satyendra Jain to consider adopting the legal route in the matter. At 4 PM, Kejriwal will meet with Railway officials to discuss the demolition drive and the death of the child living in one of the shanty.
Meanwhile, Opposition Congress accused Kejriwal of gaining political mileage in the matter and failing to act when it was required. “The Chief Minister should have acted before the demolition was undertaken and not after it,” said Congress leader Ajay Maken.
