New Delhi, April 23: Senior Aam Aadmi Party leader Sanjay Singh got into a scuffle with the Election Commission officials on Sunday when the latter expressed their displeasure over Sanjay Singh’s interview to media persons after casting his vote at a polling booth in Janak Puri. The Election Commission official yelled at Sanjay Singh and said, “Aap Bahar Jaiye, Main appko janta hoon acchi tatarh se” [Go outside, I know you well]. The residents of Delhi are casting their votes on Sunday for the 270 wards of three municipal corporations.
The State Election Commission has postponed the polls on two wards after the death of two candidates in the Maujpau and Sarai Pipal wards. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had urged the residents of Delhi to vote for Aam Aadmi Party to defy the alleged tampering of electronic voting machines.
Kejriwal Said, “One, pre-2006 EVMs without security features are being used in Delhi; two, these EVMs have no VVPATs; three, the EVMs are coming from Rajasthan (where he said EVMs were tampered with)…. The only way to fail EVM tampering is to vote for the AAP tomorrow in huge numbers… People must defeat the EVM tampering,”
The ruling party’s plea for conducting civic polls on Voter Verified Paper Audit Trail enabled electronic voting machines was rejected by Delhi High Court. The civic polls have turned into a question of prestige for the Aam Aadmi Party after losing the Rajouri Garden assembly by-poll earlier this month. Similarly, the Bharatiya Janta Party has also put in all efforts to secure victory for the third consecutive term. However, the Congress is looking for its revival after giving a tough fight in the Rajouri Garden assembly by-poll. The results of the MCD elections will be declared on April 26.
