Delhi, September 22: In a huge blow for Aam Aadmi Party again, its MLA Somnath Bharti has been arrested by Delhi police on Thursday for allegedly assaulting a security staff at Delhi’s All India Institute of Medical Sciences. Bharti was arrested two weeks after a FIR was registered against him at a local police station in Delhi. The arrest of Somnath Bharti is followed by the arrest of AAP MLA Amanatullah Khan who was probed for sexual harassment case. Somnath Bharti – the AAP leader and MLA from Malviya Nagar, Delhi – is the latest in a string of AAP leaders arrested on various charges. Bharti has been arrested under the presence of Deputy Police Commissioner, a week after he was booked under the charges of not allowing government servant to perform their duty. Following his arrest, Bharti will be produced in a local court where cops are seeking his custody.

According to reports, on September 12, AIIMS chief security officer had accused Somnath Bharti of trying to encroach government land and disrupting peace at the public property. The officer of AIIMS reportedly said that the MLA and 300 of AAP supporters had gathered at the hospital premises where they had allegedly beaten up security personnel who had asked them to vacate the hospital premises. On the other side, Bharti had alleged that the hospital managed by Central Government was illegally encroaching on a public road and using it as a car-parking area. (Also Read: Delhi: FIR registered against AAP MLA Somnath Bharti by police for allegedly misbehaving with security guards of AIIMS)

11 AAP MLAs arrested so far

Since AAPs inception a number of leaders had left the party and the party officials have are constantly making to the headlines, for no good reasons. The party which was formed in November 2012 has seen more than 17 leaders quitting the party and those leaders had also alleged that the party has compromised on core values. In all, over 15 leaders ave either left the party or were suspended by the party leadership. In last three years several of AAP leaders and ministers have been booked under severe criminal charges.

Last year in October, Somnath Bharti, who also handled the portfolio for Delhi Law Minister was booked for attempted murder, domestic violence and cheating case. In total, 11 of the Aam Aadmi Party MLAs have been arrested. AAP convenor Arvind Kejriwal has tried to defend some of them by saying they are framed by Modi government.

On Wednesday, Amanatullah Khan, AAP MLA representing the Okhla constituency was arrested in sexual assault case. A month ago, Sandeep Kumar AAPs Child welfare Minister was arrested in a sex scandal case.
