Mumbai, June 16: The special TADA court today pronounced the final leg of its verdict in the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts case and convicted Abu Salem and five others – Mustafa Dossa, Feroz Abdul Rashid Khan, Taher Merchant, Riyaz Siddiqui, and Karimullah Khan – on the charges of waging a war against the nation. While Abu Salem was convicted on charges of conspiracy and terror activities, the others have been charged with conspiracy, terrorism, and murder. Abu Salem, one of the prime accused in the 1993 Mumbai bomb blasts, was accused of transporting the weapons from Gujarat to Mumbai. Salem also handed over AK 56 rifles, 250 bullets, and some hand grenades to actor Sanjay Dutt in January 1993 before the Mumbai serial bomb blasts.

There was a total of seven accused in the 1993 Mumbai blasts case, from which Abdul Qayyum has been acquitted of all charges. As per the reports, the Terrorism And Disruptive Activities (Prevention) Act court ordered his release on personal bond. (Also Read: 10 key facts and timeline of 1993 Mumbai serial blasts)



Abu Salem was arrested on September 20 in 2002, along with former actress Monica Bedi by Interpol in Lisbon, Portugal after his satellite phone was tracked using GPS technology.

In February 2004, a Portugal court cleared his extradition to India to face trial in the 1993 Mumbai bomb blasts case and handed him over on the assurance that death penalty would not be handed out to him.

Abu Salem has also been convicted of murdering music baron Gulshan Kumar in 1996. After being sidelined by Dawood Ibrahim, Salem parted ways with Dawood.


Mustafa Dossa is one of the accused in 1993 Mumbai serial blasts case which took place in 1993 at different locations including Bombay Stock Exchange building, Fisherman`s Colony in Mahim, Plaza Cinema, Zaveri Bazaar, Katha Bazaar etc across Mumbai.

Mustafa Dossa was convicted on the charges of terror activities, conspiracy, and murder by the special TADA court in Mumbai.

During the course of the trial, Dossa was declared absconder as he had fled India following the serial blasts. Dossa was later extradited from the UAE.


Feroz Abdul Rashid Khan, one of the accused in carrying out the 1993 Mumbai blasts, was today convicted by the special TADA court on the charges of waging war against India.

Rashid Khan was arrested in 2010 by the police from Koparkhairne in connection with the 1993 serial bomb blasts in Mumbai. He has also been accused of being a member of Dawood Ibrahim gang and helping him in smuggling in arms and ammunition before the 1993 blasts.

Feroz Abdul Rashid Khan, in 2011, was one of the terrorists in Indian list of ‘most wanted’ terrorists. In the list, he was ranked at number 24. (Also Read: Probe conducted without evidence, claims former Supreme Court judge)


Taher Merchant was arrested in 2010 following his deportation from Abu Dhabi. He has been absconding since the serial bomb blasts in Mumbai in the year 1993.

In October 1993, the TADA court had issued a non-bailable warrant against Taher Merchant after he was declared absconding in the blasts case.

According to reports, Merchant had attended meetings in Dubai, where the 1993 blast conspiracy was hatched by Tiger Memon and Dawood Ibrahim.


Riyaz Siddiqui is a close aide of gangster Abu Salem, one of the prime accused in 1993 Mumbai serial bomb blasts. The special TADA court today convicted him of waging war against India.

According to the charges on him, Siddiqui had arranged for a Maruti van to the people who had carried out the blasts. He is also one of the accused who had transported RDX and ammunitions concealed in the van to Bharuch in Gujarat.

In Guharat, Siddiqui handed over the van to Abu Salem who then gave the explosives to actor Sanjay Dutt.

The TADA court in 2010 had rejected a bail plea requested by him observing that the case against him is a serious one and hence, he would not be provided bail.


Karimullah Khan has been accused of smuggling the explosives into the country through Shekhadi Port in Raigad which were then placed and left at various locations in Mumbai.

Khan was convicted in the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts case by the special TADA court on Friday.
