Indore: A folk dancer was rendered partially blind following an acid attack on Tuesday. The incident was reported from Banganga area in Indore district of Madhya Pradesh. The attack came hours before she was to leave for the US for a concert.

The 20-year-old victim, identified as Rupali Nirapure, is a known face and has performed across the globe and on national TV. As per a report, she was attacked by Monu around 12.40 PM. He had reportedly called her up and requested him to come outside to meet him up.

The CCTV footage, according to a report in TOI, shows the accused waiting outside the victim’s house. With head and face covered, he can be seen holding some ‘chemical’ in a glass. He throws the liquid on Rupali’s face as she steps out of her house and runs away.

The chemical has damaged her corneas and reduced the visibility by about 25 per cent. The nature of the liquid thrown by Monu on Rupali has not been confirmed as of now.

Both the accused and victim were known to each other. They met in a dance class. Monu was reportedly pressuring Rupali into marriage to which she refused.
