Mumbai, October 11: Parmeshwar Godrej, socialite and the wife of Indian electrical appliances group Godrej group, Adi Godrej, passed away at Breach Candy Hospital, on Monday night, reports have revealed. Pakistani politician and former cricketer Imran Khan on Tuesday was the first one to post condolences for her sudden demise, on Twitter. The tweet shocked many, who were still unaware of Parmeshwar’s death. The 64-year-old chief of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) party, tweeted out on Tuesday morning that he was ‘devastated’ to hear of the death of the industrialist’s wife, who he said was a good friend of his and had stood by him, in difficult times. He expressed his grief on Parmeshwar Godrej’s demise, saying that he wished strength for Adi Godrej and his children. Parmeshwar Godrej was reportedly suffering from a degenerative lung disease and had been admitted in the Hospital for quite some time. Twitter sphere largely remained unaware of the incident. Tweeting on Tuesday, Imran Khan said, “Devastated by death of close friend, Parmeshwar Godrej, last night: she was always there for me in my most difficult times. May her husband Adhi and her children find strength to cope with this loss.” Khan and Parmeshwar Godrej have been close friends and have made several media appearances together.  Parmeshwar was 70 years-old and is survived by her husband, and three children Nisa Godrej, Pirojsha Adi Godrej and Tanya Dubash. ALSO READ: Godrej hits out BJP govt: ‘Beef ban hurts economy, Vedic Indians were beef-eaters’ Also Read - Major chunk of agri sales should go to farmers: Adi Godrej

Godrej, a socialite and a philanthropist has also been active in spreading awareness about AIDS in India, for which she is very well known. Godrej had been working through the Heroes Project- an initiative launched by Hollywood actor Richard Gere in 2004. Parmeshwar Godrej’s initiative had also garnered support from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Parmeshwar Godrej has worked as an air hostess for Air India, before she was married to her entrepreneur husband Adi Godrej. Her work in this field also lead her to take interest in other fields of women and child welfare, specifically in health. Besides being a active philanthropist, Godrej was also known for hosting generous and lavish parties in Mumbai.

In 2012, Parmeshwar Godrej entertained the famous American host Oprah Winfrey, in her Juhu Villa, where she hosted an exclusive soiree, in the latter’s honour. Godrej donned a hat with numerous feathers and was into costume designing too. She is most well known for designing Bollywood dream girl Hema Malini’s look in the film Dharmatma (1975), on the request of her good friend Feroz Khan who was the Actor, Director and Producer of the same film. Godrej was frequently described as one the power brokers and was recently in news for taking up the project of redecoration of Bollywood actor Hrithik Roshan’s home.
