Lucknow: After Allahabad city was rechristened as Prayagraj, the Allahabad University is now all set to undergo the name change. The Vice-Chancellor of Allahabad University has sent out a proposal to the state governor to rename the varsity as Prayagraj State University.

As of now, the approval is pending with the Yogi Aditynath-led Uttar Pradesh government. Once cleared, the approval would need a clearance from the state Governor Ram Naik.

In October, the Uttar Pradesh government formally rechristened the name of Allahabad to Prayagraj. Announcing the Cabinet decision to rename Allahabad as Prayagraj, CM Adityanath had said, “Keeping in view the feelings and emotions of the people, Allahabad has been renamed Prayagraj by our government. Five hundred years ago the name of the place was Prayagraj as it is at the `Triveni Sangam’ (a confluence of three rivers)”.

The following month, continuing the name changing spree, the Chief Minister announced that the city of Faizabad would be renamed to Ayodhya. While addressing a huge gathering here on the occasion of Deepotsav, Adityanath said, “Faizabad district of the state, of which Ayodhya city is a part, would be restored to its original name and would be known as Ayodhya from today.”
