New Delhi, May 17: The Karnataka political battle has reached the other states of the country and is slowly spreading. After Goa and Bihar, Congress leaders in Manipur and Meghalaya have now sought time from the respective Governors of the state for a meeting tomorrow. The former Chief Ministers of Manipur and Meghalaya — Okram Ibobi Singh and Mukul Sangma — have now taken appointments to meet their respective Governors, news agency ANI reported.

“We’re seeking appointment from Guv for tomorrow. We were single largest party and had immediately met Guv after results were announced but we weren’t invited to form govt. Based on recent developments, if BJP can be given chance to form govt, why not us?,” OI Singh, Former Manipur CM, said.

This has come hours after Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav announced that the party has decided to meet the Bihar Governor Satya Pal Malik to stake claim to form the government in the state citing the fact that the Karnataka Governor invited the single largest party in the state to form the government. “I will meet the Governor along with our MLAs as we are the single largest party in Bihar,” tweeted Tejashwi Yadav, who is also the Opposition leader in the Bihar Assembly.

The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader said that if the Bharatiya Janata Party was invited by the Karnataka Governor to form the government on grounds that it was the single largest party, then the RJD also had the right to form the government. “We will request the Bihar Governor to dismiss the state government and invite the RJD to form the government,” he said.

Congress to Meet Governor in Goa

Earlier in the day, Congress announced that it will stake claim to form the government in Goa since the party too had emerged as the single largest party during the Goa Assembly polls in 2017. The party is likely to march 16 of its MLAs to the Raj Bhawan tomorrow. “In 2017, we won 17 seats & were single largest party & continue to be but Governor chose to invite the BJP which had 13 seats. In Karnataka, Governor invited BJP as they are the single largest party. So, we appeal to Governor to invite us to form govt,” Yatish Naik, Congress, told ANI.

Congress Attacks K’taka Governor

Launching another attack at Karnataka Vajubhai Vala, Congress leader Randeep Surjewala today said, “Vajubhai vala had sacrificed his seat for Narendra Modi earlier, yesterday he sacrificed Constitution and democracy for him. He conducted 1st encounter of Constitution yesterday when he invited BJP to form govt. Today when he swore-in BS Yeddyurappa, he conducted its 2nd encounter.”
