Srinagar, May 30: Independent legislator in Jammu & Kashmir Assembly, also known as the voice of Hurriyat in the legislative House, Engineer Abdul Rasheed stoked a controversy on Monday, by calling Indian Army as ‘wolves’. During the proceeding in Assembly on Monday, Rashid lashed out at Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti for using the cat-pigeon analogy to describe the relation between Kashmiri Pandits and the Muslim dwellers of the valley.
Interrupting the speech of state Finance Minister Haseeb Drabu, Rashid demanded a debate on the comments of Mehbooba Mufti. “How can the chief minister call the Kashmiris as cats and the Pandits as pigeons?” (ALSO READ: Mehbooba Mufti should apologise to people of valley for referring to them as cats: National Conference)
“I think she is right in calling them as pigeons, because just like pigeons, they can fly anywhere. Pigeons’ movement cannot be controlled by humans. And so, they have fled the Kashmir valley,” an infuriated Rashid said, referring insensitively to the Pandits who were forced to flee from the valley during the militancy era.
“On the other hand, you have treated Kashmiris like cats, who cannot move out of their respective yards. You have allowed the (Indian) force to act like ‘wolves’ who can kill the cats as per their whims and fancies,” Rashid said in the House, evoking sharp response from the BJP MLAs.
Mehbooba Mufti, on Friday, used the cat-pigeon analogy to describe the return of Kashmiri Pandits back to the valley. Chief Minister claims that her government is committed to bring back the Pandits, but they are also worried about the safe environment where they would not be targeted again. BJP, the coalition partner in the government with PDP, is creating pressure on Mehbooba to give approval to the ‘Pandit colony’ project, which would facilitate the return of the Hindu Kashmiri refugees back to their home state.
