“We never make any personal attacks on anyone’s family. We criticized the post they held. But why are Congress leaders making personal attacks on my mother and father,” he added. Also Read - BJP Teased Me In Front of PM, Insulted Netaji, Bengal With Jai Shri Ram Chants: Mamata Banerjee

The prime minister’s remarks came in response to the controversial comments made by former Union minister and Congress leader Vilas Muttemwar who questioned PM Modi’s lineage.

“Who knew you (Modi) before you became the prime minister? Even today nobody knows your father’s name. Everyone knows Rahul Gandhi’s father’s name, Rajiv Gandhi. Everyone knows Rajiv Gandhi’s mother’s name, Indira Gandhi. Everyone knows Indira Gandhi’s father’s name, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. And everyone knows Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru’s father’s name, Motilal Nehru. Everyone knows the family since five generations. But this Narendra, just forget about him. He will now write the ‘hisab’,” he said addressing a meeting in poll-bound Rajasthan.

Earlier, Congress leader Raj Babbar had likened the falling rupee to the age of Modi’s mother, after C P Joshi’s casteist remark on the PM and Union minister Uma Bharti.

“Before becoming PM, Narendra Modi used to say that the value of the rupee has fallen to a level where it is almost the same as the age of the then-PM (Manmohan Singh). Now, it is inching towards the age of Modis respected mother,” Babbar had said.

Addressing a poll meeting in Rajasthan on Thursday, Joshi had reportedly said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP MP Uma Bharti and Hindu activist Sadhvi Ritambhara are from “lower castes” and know nothing of Hinduism. He said it is the Brahmins who are learned and know of Hinduism.

The prime minister added that the Congress is running out of steam in the upcoming Madhya Pradesh Assembly elections.
