Mumbai, April 19: Maharashtra is currently witnessing one of the history’s worst drought situation in several areas. At a time when Maharashtra is facing severe water crisis, many celebrities including Bollywood actor Nana Patekar and Aamir Khan came forward to held the drought-affected people in the state. Now, Akshay Kumar has come out to help the drought stricken Maharashtra.
Akshay Kumar donated Rs 50 lakh for Jalyukt Shivar Abhiyaan. The motive of Jalyukt Shivar Abhiyaan is to make the villages of Maharashtra drought-proof. The state-sponsored initiative will also involve construction of ponds in farms to harvest water. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis thanked the actor for his contribution. Actor Nana Patekar and Aamir Khan have been taking active part in helping the Maharashtra government and farmers in the parched state. Mr Perfectionist recently launched the Satyamev Jayate Water Cup – a water management and decentralisation contest among the villages of Maharashtra and adopted two of the drought-affected villages.
Total 27,723 villages, nearly half of the 43,000 villages in Maharashtra have been declared drought-hit. According to officials, of the 75 medium dams in Marathwada, 54 have dried up and the region is left with paltry 380 million cubic metres of usable water. The water crisis in the state is worsening day by day making the lives of villagers more difficult.
