According to reports, Air India London-bound plane crashes immediately after take off with 242 passengers on board. Initial reports suggests that former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani was also on board.

A plane crashed near Ahmedabad airport in Gujarat on Thursday reportedly during take-off. Visuals showed heavy smoke billowing near the area. There were 242 people on board the aircraft, consisting of 2 pilots and 10 cabin crew.

According to reports, Air India London-bound plane crashes immediately after take off with 242 passengers on board. Initial reports suggests that former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani was also on board. The whereabout of former CM is still unknown.

The plane caught fire after crashing and fire tenders were rushed to the spot to douse the blaze, said fire officer Jayesh Khadia.

Air India in its first statement said, “Flight AI171, operating Ahmedabad-London Gatwick, was involved in an incident today, 12 June 2025. At this moment, we are ascertaining the details and will share further updates at the earliest on airindia.com and on our X handle (x.com/airindia).”

Gujarat CM Bhupendra Patel tweeted, “I am deeply saddened by the incident of Air India passenger plane crash in Ahmedabad. I have instructed the officials to carry out immediate rescue and relief work and arrange for immediate treatment of the injured passengers on a war footing. I have also instructed to arrange for a green corridor to take the injured passengers for treatment and to ensure all arrangements for treatment in the hospital on priority basis. Union Home Minister Amit Shah has also spoken to me and assured full cooperation…”
