The decision was taken at the general council meeting on Tuesday, which is chaired by CM Palaniswami and O Panneerselvam. The meeting was attended by all the office bearers and around 2500 party cadre. Tamil Nadu minister RB Udaykumar read out the resolution, saying all those who were appointed by Jayalalithaa as office bearers will continue. He also said that AIADMK will be a unified faction and they will retrieve the ‘two leaves’ symbol. Meanwhile, new party posts have been given to Panneerselvam and E Palaniswami. While Panneerselvam will be chief coordinator of the party, Palaniswami will be an assistant chief coordinator. The leaders will have all the power of party general secretary.

O Panneerselvam and E Palaniswami had unified their factions last month. The compromise formula entailed that Palaniswami will head the government, whereas Panneerselvam will lead the party. After the development, TTV Dhinakaran had broken away 21 MLAs from AIADMK who later gave letters to governor showing lack of confidence on Palaniswami’s leadership.
