New Delhi: Congress president Rahul Gandhi had a clear message for Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and Jyotiraditya Scindia – the new Congress general secretary in-charges for Uttar Pradesh East and West – during the strategy meeting held in the national capital on Thursday for upcoming Lok Sabha Elections 2019.
Gandhi asked Priyanka and Jyotiraditya to strengthen the party in the crucial state and told them to spring into ‘mission mode’. He also advised them ‘not to expect miracles in two months’ and aim at state elections.
Furthermore, the meeting, convened by Rahul Gandhi a day after Priyanka and Jyotiraditya took charge as AICC general secretaries of Uttar Pradesh East and West respectively, focused on party’s overall strategy for the Lok Sabha polls and booth-level organisation.
During the nearly 3-hour meeting, the first official meeting for Priyanka, Gandhi asked the leaders to make sure that the party campaign for general elections is a decent one, unlike the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP). Giving an ultimatum, he asked the general secretaries and state in-charges to finalise candidates for polls by the end of February.
“I met with our AICC General Secretaries & State In Charges at the AICC HQ this evening. Our discussions covered a wide range of subjects. The team is match ready and we will play on the front foot…(sic),” the Congress president said on Twitter after the meeting.
Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and Jyotiraditya Scindia will embark to Uttar Pradesh on February 11, their first visit to the crucial state after taking over as Congress general secretaries for east and west UP. Both, accompanied by Rahul Gandhi, will interact with party workers at state Congress office in Lucknow on February 12, 13 and 14.
The Congress chief has also called a meeting of state chiefs and Congress Legislature Party leaders on Saturday in the national capital, to review preparedness for the general election.
