New Delhi: In a shocking incident, a Delhi-based pilot was allegedly harassed by a taxi driver at Thiruvananthapuram airport.  The incident took place on Friday night when the pilot was waiting for her cab at a pre-paid taxi kiosk with CCTV cameras installed.

She reached out to authorities, including Thiruvananthapuram MP and senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor, but failed to get any response. Later, the pilot filed a complaint with the airport manager informing him that  the car was a Kerala-registered grey Esteem.

She narrated her ordeal on social media.”I’m waiting for the transport, after work and this illiterate hooligan stops his car a few feet away from me and decides to catcall and harrass me, ‘Hey baby, come with me’ and speeds away in his car,” the pilot wrote,

She also accessed the CCTV footage and found the car’s registration number. The taxi driver has been arrested on charges of sexual harassment. However, his identity is yet to be ascertained. Speaking to PTI, a police official said,”The case was registered against the driver under IPC section 354A (making sexually coloured remarks). As per the cab number, the vehicle is registered in the name of a woman. Further investigations are underway.”

Notably, the incident comes a day after the national carrier Air India celebrated Women’s Day by operating 12 international and more than 40 domestic flights with all-women crew. Around 240 female employees of the airline were involved in flying the flights.
