Srinagar, May 7: On Sunday, security forces gunned down five terrorists including Saddam Hussain Paddar in South Kashmir’s Shopian district. With the death of Saddam, security forces have managed to hunt down and kill all terrorists, except one, who posed in the famous picture of Burhan Wahi, the slain terrorist and Hizbul commander. The photograph that became viral in June 2015 assumed significance as young militants posed without masks in contrast to earlier times when they remained hidden.Also Read - Soldier Found Dead Inside Army Camp in Srinagar

“With Saddam Paddar’s killing, we have eliminated the entire group of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani,” a senior police officer was quoted by ThePrint as saying. “Out of the 11 militants in Burhan’s core group, 10 have been killed, while the lone survivor is in jail,” the officer said. The lone survivor of the Burhan Wani group, Tariq Pandit surrendered in 2016.   • Burhan Wani: The poster boy of new age militancy was killed by security forces on July 8, 2016, in south Kashmir’s Kokernag in Anantnag district. His death triggered a series of clashes between protesters and security forces.
  • Adil Khanday: The 20-year-old militant was killed in an encounter by security forces in south Kashmir’s Shopian district on October 22, 2015.
  • Naseer Pandit, Waseem Malla: Both the top Hizbul Mujahideen militants were killed in an encounter with forces in Shopian on April 7, 2016.
  • Afaq Bhat: A son of a policeman, Afaq was gunned down in an encounter at Drabgam, Pulwama on October 26, 2015.
  • Sabzar Bhat: He succeeded Burhan Wani as Hizbul Mujahideen commander. The category A  militant, who would use social media to woo youths, was killed in an encounter on May 27, 2017, in south Kashmir’s Tral area of Pulwama.
  • Anees: The whereabouts of Anees is not known but police sources say he has also been killed.
  • Ishfaq: Another category A militant, he was killed in an encounter in Pulwama on May 7, 2016.
  • Wasim Shah: He took over as Hizbul Mujahideen commander and later joined Lashkar-e-Taiba. He was killed in an encounter in Pulwama on October 14, 2017.
  • Saddam Hussain Paddar: A school dropout from Shopian, Saddam was killed on Sunday.
