Lucknow, April 28: Lucknow bench of Allahabad High Court on Friday stayed bail on Samajwadi Party leader Gayatri Prajapati in a rape case. The SP leader on Tuesday was granted bail by POSCO court on Tuesday, this was 40 days after he was arrested. On Tuesday, two of his aides Vikas Varma and Pintu Singh were also granted bail. Adityanath government had moved the court to seek cancellation of Prajapati’s bail.
Special Judge O.P. Mishra, hearing the application, granted the bail to the former Mining and Transport Minister on two personal bonds of Rs 1 lakh each. A case against the minister for alleged rape and on charges of violating Posco Act was filed in the Gautampalli police station here in February.
A female from Chitrakoot had alleged that Prajapati had raped her several times on the promise of granting her a high post in the Samajwadi Party. She further alleged that SP leader used to misbehave with a minor girl.The woman had also stated that cops took no action against her complaint. The Apex court had asked UP government to provide security to the woman who had lodged a complaint.
When the victims plea was rejected by Allahabad High Court, she then approached India’s top court, the Supreme Court. Following this, after Supreme Court’s orders an FIR wad filed against the SP elader. India’s top court said that even the Prajapati is a leader, it does not snatch away the rights of the cops to file an FIR.
