New Delhi: Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) Chief Mayawati on Tuesday attacked Ashok Gehlot-led Rajasthan government over Alwar gangrape case, saying that the Supreme court should take action against the Congress, the police and the administration in the state. Emphasising on the gravity of the situation, Mayawati said that the matter was just not related to Dalits, but all women.
Further, she added that the guilty in Alwar gangrape case should be awarded a death sentence.
“The guilty in Alwar gang-rape case should be hanged till death. Supreme Court should take action against the Congress government, police and the administration in the state. This matter is not just related to Dalits but all women,” news agency ANI reported Mayawati as saying.
On April 26, a woman was going to a place from her village on a motorcycle with her husband when five men, who were on two bikes, stopped them on Thanagazi-Alwar bypass and took them to an isolated place off the road. They beat the husband and raped the woman in front of him, threatening them of dire consequences.
All the five accused in the Alwar gangrape case were arrested from Mathura, police said on Thursday.
The gangrape evoked sharp criticism from all sections of the society, with political parties protests holding protests in various parts of the state, including Ajmer, Alwar, Swai Madhopur and Churu. They cornered the Rajasthan government for allegedly covering up the matter due to Lok Sabha elections in the state.
