Singer Sonu Nigam pledges to honour bus driver Sheikh Salim Gafoor, who managed to save lives of Amarnath pilgrims during the terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Anantnag.

Mumbai, July 16: Singer Sonu Nigam pledges to honour bus driver Sheikh Salim Gafoor, who managed to save lives of Amarnath pilgrims during the terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag. The Bollywood singer wants to honour him for his courageous act with a reward of Rs 5 lakh. The terrorist attack last week claimed the lives of seven pilgrims and at least 30 people were injured. Although the attack left everyone in shock, driver Salim is lauded for his bravery by everyone in India. The bus owner, Harsh Desai helped driver Salim and told him to keep driving the bus.

A source close to Sonu Nigam tells Mumbai Mirror, “Sonu was really moved by the driver’s courage and his presence of mind. He made sure that the driver was tracked down and ensured that the money reached him safely. It’s an inspiring gesture by him, as he made sure that such unsung heroes are awarded.”

The driver steered across the attack when the bus’ tire flattened and it was encountering non-stop raining bullets. Salim didn’t stop driving the bus till it reached a safe zone. Sonu confirmed the news and said, “Such people are always given a bravery award or medal for their actions by the government. But they should be financially rewarded for their goodness and amazing presence of mind.”
